Bellarmine Stoneware Jug, probably Frechen, Germany, 16th or 17th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an applied bearded face above a coggled "2" for two liters, the surface decorated with a heavily-dipped iron-oxide treatment. A thin vertical crack extending from base to shoulder on side of jug. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder area on left side. Spider lines to right side of jug. Base chips. H 14 1/2".
