Rare Bellarmine Stoneware Jug with Inscribed Body, probably Frechen, Germany, 16th century, ovoid form with footed base and applied bearded mask to neck, the midsection featuring the raised inscription "WAN GOT WILT SO IST MEIN ZEILT". Additional raised acanthus leaf and portrait roundels to body. Surface covered in an iron-oxide slip with overlying salt glaze. Includes pewter lid. 5/8" chip on interior of spout with short, faint hairline descending from it. A second small spout chip. A horizontal crack through handle. H (to thumbrest of lid) 8 1/4".
