Exceptional Slip-Decorated Redware Canning Jar, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, semi-ovoid form with flaring "wax sealer" rim, the surface decorated throughout with dramatic splashed yellow slip over an olive ground with orange spotting and covered in a clear lead glaze. Visually stunning slip treatment, extremely rare for this maker. Provenance: From a long-term Illinois collection consigned to this auction. Very nice condition with some wear to rim and inner wax sealer rim, as well as a lightly-glazed in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. H 8 3/4".
