Slip-Decorated Redware Canning Jar, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim with inner "wax sealer" rim for canning purposes, the upper portion of the jar with dipped yellow slip decoration, the entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze over an olive ground with orange spotting. Very nice condition. Wear to rim. Minor traces of old gold paint to exterior and areas of gold paint to inner wax sealer rim, both unrelated to any sort of restoration. A very shallow 1" flake to underside. H 8 1/2".
