Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Folky Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "D. ALBRIGHT," Trumbull County, OH origin, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tapered spout, decorated with reductive brushed design of a standing bird with long neck and fanned tail, applied over a slip-coated surface. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Figural decorations from this Ohio county are considered rare. This design, reminiscent of a cave painting, is appealing in its simplicity. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Staining to surface, two in-the-firing dry areas to surface. A tight 4 3/4" line ascending from base on reverse. A tight 3 1/2" line from spout. Some staining. Surface with two drier, in-the-firing areas, which are reddish colored. H 11 3/4".
