Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Dancing Man Decoration, Ohio origin, third quarter 19th century, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder and flared rim, decorated with a large brushed design of a dancing man with bent legs and arched arms. Appealing freehand cattail decoration to the shoulder. Distinctive four-gallon capacity mark at shoulder. Desirable form and appealing folk art rendering of the human form, which alone measures 11" tall. A 1 1/2" rim chip. Chips to inner rim for lid. Bottom edge with a 1 1/4" worn section and minor chip. H 16".
