Exceptional Small-Sized Redware Moon Jug, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, squat-shaped jug with wide, tooled spout, decorated with two large yellow-slip spots to the body and yellow-slip highlights to the handle and spout, applied under a clear lead glaze. Possibly the finest example of Galena redware that we have ever offered, this work features the highly-prized "moon" motif on a desirable, small-sized vessel with rare addition of slip to the handle and spout. Provenance: From a long-term Illinois collection consigned to this auction. Very nice condition with some wear to handle and a small area of wear to midsection. H 6 1/4".
