Slip-Decorated Westerwald Stoneware Mug with Coggled Animal Decoration, German origin, circa 1690, cylindrical form with relief coggled decoration to shoulder and base depicting a deer, a turned-head bird, a rabbit, another bird, and a dog; midsection with incised and impressed floral motifs. Cobalt and manganese slip decoration throughout. Incised "6" on reverse. Cracks in underside, one extending 2 1/2" up front, another extending 3" up reverse, and two extending a short distance onto body and stopping at foot. H 5 1/4".
