Rare Two-Gallon Wheeling, WV Stoneware Advertising Cake Crock, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising "CENTER WHEELING GROCERY / H.F. BEHRENS" with stenciled sunrise at center. Surface heavily-decorated with brushed cobalt stripes and swags. Script cobalt "2" at base. A fine example of West Virginia advertising stoneware. Very nice condition with spots of grease staining throughout and a few tight lines on underside, which are difficult to see.
