Outstanding Small-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Presentation Jar, attributed to the A.P. Donaghho Pottery, Parkersburg, WV, Dated Aug 19, 1882, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and arched lug handles, featuring the incised and cobalt-highlighted inscription, "S J Thompson / Parkersburg W Va. / Aug 19 1882," within a brushed wavy-line border accented with a curved line and spot at the corners. Additional stripe decoration at base of collar and base of jar. Cobalt highlights coating the depressed handle terminals. This jar's incised inscription, fine brushwork, and small size modeled after larger handled jars, rank it among the finest pieces from Donaghho's Parkersburg production known. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Very nice condition. A glazed-over 7/8" chip to one handle. A 3/4" chip to side of rim. A minor, glazed-over rim chip on reverse. H 7 1/2".
