Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to the Thomas Chandler Pottery, Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly ovoid jar with arched lug handles and thin, semi-rounded rim, decorated in iron slip on the front and reverse with a large, slip-trailed "broken stem" floral motif against an olive-colored, alkaline-glazed ground. A 7 1/2" crack from rim on one side, including a thin, approximately 6" extending through this crack near midsection. An additional small surface flake appears along the vertical crack. Otherwise excellent condition. H 12 1/2".
