Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to the Thomas Chandler Pottery, Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with flaring collar, decorated with draped looping trails of slip-trailed iron slip against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Provenance: Harmer Rooke Galleries, New York, NY; includes Harmer Rooke auction sticker at shoulder. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on one side. A 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" reglued section at rim/shoulder, adjacent to a 4" x 1 1/4" reglued section at rim. This damage includes lines that extend a bit further than the reglued breaks, as well as a few very small restored chips at rim. An in-the-firing 5/8" ping to base and some in-the-firing surface lines to base. H 10 1/4".
