Exceptional Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J. W. S. & CO. / PINE HOUSE / S.C.," John W. Seigler Pottery, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1860, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, the surface covered in a sophisticated and lively alkaline glaze displaying raised olive runs over a gray-green and mottled iron-colored ground. Reverse base impressed the John W. Seigler maker's mark. Arguably the finest marked jug from this pottery known, this work features a highly unusual glaze for this maker, one more typically associated with the Landrum family. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 14".
