Three-Gallon Manganese-Glazed Redware Churn, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, the exterior covered in a mottled cream-and-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Clear lead glaze to interior. Impressed "3" at shoulder. Provenance: From a long-term Illinois collection consigned to this auction. Chipping to proper left handle. A small chip and glaze loss to proper right handle. Scattered light exfoliation to surface. A large flake to shoulder on reverse. A small flake below proper right handle. An approximately 11 " thin diagonal crack to proper right side/front of churn. Significant exfoliation to interior. Wear to rim. H 14 1/2".
