Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. Donaghho, / Parkersburg, W.Va.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and extruded lug handles, decorated with two bands of geometric stenciling below a stenciled "4" flanked by additional stenciling. A.P. Donaghho maker's stenciling at base. A 6" crack on underside, continuing 6 1/2" up left side of jar's front. In-the-firing mottling to surface. Some exfoliation to reverse. Minor exfoliation below one handle. A glazed-over in-the-making flaw below opposite handle. H 14 3/4".
