Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn with Stenciled Cross and Stars, Stenciled "J.P. PARKER / JANE LEW, WV," circa 1870, cylindrical churn with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, featuring J.P. Parker maker's stenciling below a stenciled cross with stars and the number 4. Wavy swaths of cobalt to the left and right. Incised "4" below one handle. A thin 3" crack from rim on reverse. Some light surface wear. A 1" in-the-making gouge mark in clay below one handle, which is glazed over. Wear to interior of rim and inner rim for lid. H 15 3/4".
