Fine Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing stripe-accented tulips, buds, and unusual spotted stems. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes original salt-glazed stoneware lid, impressed with the same three-gallon capacity mark as the jar. Chipping to interior of rim. Chips and wear to inner rim for lid. Light wear to cobalt. A small chip to one handle. A matte glaze drip to side of jar. A tiny in-the-firing ping to opposite handle. Three minor in-the-firing pings to reverse. Large and small chips to lid. H (excluding lid) 13 1/4".
