Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON / PALATINE / WV. VA.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched lug handles, decorated with two wavy freehand stripes above a stenciled 5 flanked by stenciled accents. Richey & Hamilton maker's stenciling below surrounding a stenciled flourish. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Small, scattered flakes to left side of jar's front, extending onto left side. Some of the flakes are painted blue. A long crack on underside, extending 5 1/4" up front. Chips to one handle. H 15 3/4".
