Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, attributed to Stephen Ward, West Brownsville, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with thin rim and rounded and tooled shoulder, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield, clutching an olive branch and arrows. Stenciled scrolled motif above. Freehand stripe below rim and stenciled 2 with flourishes near base. Restoration at base/reverse, continuing onto underside. A long semi-circular line on underside. H 11 3/4".
