Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA," circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall, flaring collar, featuring James Hamilton & Co. maker's stenciling to the midsection above a stenciled 2, flanked by stenciled foliate devices. Scrolled stenciled design to collar. Freehand stripes to rim, midsection, and base. A rare form for this maker, potted in a desirable two-gallon size. Restored handle. A 2 1/2" crack on underside, extending 5" up side of pitcher. An in-the-firing contact mark to front. Water glass staining to interior. H 11 3/4".
