Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Wheeling, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "N. HUBBARD, / GROCER. / CENTER / WHEELING.W.VA." Freehand stripe below rim. Significant chipping around interior of rim. Wax sealer rim with a 5/8" chip, two minor chips, and wear. A flake to interior, forming a small hole on exterior, which has been restored. A small amount of paint below stenciling and larger areas of paint on reverse indicate other restored areas to surface. H 8 3/4".
