Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. Donoghho,(sic) / Parkersburg, W.Va.," circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with angled rim, the front featuring the maker's stenciling, "A.P. Donoghho, / Parkersburg, W.Va.," above a stenciled band of geometric designs. Decorated above with a freehand stripe and drape motif. Freehand stripe to base. Collar decorated with diagonal brushwork flanking graduated dashes on the spout. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. This boldly-decorated example, featuring an appealing combination of stenciled and freehand motifs, bears a rare error mark misspelling the name, Donaghho, as "Donoghho." Excellent condition with a small chip to top of spout, a small in-the-firing chip to front of spout that is partially glazed over, and a small in-the-firing chip where spout meets rim. Reverse with a minor stone ping near base. H 10 1/2".
