Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Motif, attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, ovoid jug with flared, heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a coggled design of a bird holding a leaved stem in its beak, brushed over with a band of cobalt. Two long in-the-firing Y-shaped lines to body. Various unglazed in-the-firing contact marks to surface. Two glazed-over vertical lines to base. Base chips. Tiny surface fissures to midsection. H 14 1/4".
