One-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay ears with wood-and-wire bail handle. Decorated on the reverse with a stylized stenciled design. Wreath-like brushwork to base of spout. Cobalt highlights to ears and handle terminals. Includes original tin covers with old brown paint. Batter pail in excellent condition with staining to surface. Expected paint loss to tins. H (excluding lid) 8 3/4".
