Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "OTTMAN BRO'S / & CO. / FORT EDWARD, NY," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leaf. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Wide top-to-bottom crack on side of crock, extending through handle and onto underside. Rim chips. An in-the-firing iron ping to front. A thin 8 1/4" crack on reverse. A few tiny in-the-firing iron pings on reverse. Some staining.
