Extremely Rare Stoneware Mug with Cobalt Decoration of a Man Raising a Mug, Inscribed "Good Luck," attributed to William Macquoid & Co., Manhattan, NY, circa 1870, barrel-form mug, decorated with a brushed design of a hatted man raising a mug in a toast, beside the inscription, "Good Luck." An iconic and desirable Macquoid motif. This mug is the first example of the form that we have seen decorated with this design. Mug broken into sections and reglued. Handle restored. A shallow, 1 1/16" glazed-over flake to rim. A minor rim chip and small filled rim chip. H 7 3/4".
