Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Girl's Portrait, attributed to William Macquoid, Manhattan, NY, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a girl's face with parted hair and pigtails. Desirable subject matter and size, exemplifying Macquoid's diverse and artistic decorative palette. Excellent condition with a 1 1/4" X-shaped surface line on underside, continuing 1" up base on front (not visible on interior), and a drip of staining on reverse. H 7 1/8".
