Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "BELMONT AVE. / POTTERY," Newark, NJ origin, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed design of a bird perched in a leafy branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some restoration to surface above bird on front, not affecting decoration. Restoration to right side and reverse of crock. Small chips to interior of rim. Exfoliation to underside.
