Outstanding Six-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jug Cooler with Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO.," circa 1870, large jug with open handles at the sides and large circular bung hole at base. Decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt bird resembling a pecking chicken atop a flowering vine. Excellent form and color. Desirable, large-sized bird decoration. Excellent condition. 5 1/2" Y-shaped line on reverse, possibly in-the-making. Faint 1/2" line on spout. Spout chip. Height 19 1/2".
