Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON, / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Large area of restoration to right side / reverse of crock, extending to underside. The restoration covers a crack, but possibly more damage. A faint 1 1/2" line to rim above left handle. A minor chip and two tiny nicks to interior of rim.
