Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. COWDEN," Harrisburg, PA origin, circa 1861, with rounded sides, tooled shoulder, and flattened rim, decorated with a brushed design of a wavy stem bearing two flower buds and a series of leaves. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A crack across underside, which forms a Y in two places on body of bowl. A 2 1/4" chipped area to rim of bowl on left side. Some staining.
