Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "WHEELING POTTERY," Wheeling, VA (now WV) origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and arching tab handles, the front impressed with the maker's mark, "WHEELING POTTERY." Appealing, early style form related to examples produced concurrently elsewhere in Virginia. Chips to left handle. A minor chip to reverse end of right handle. Several cracks to base area, extending onto underside, one of which continues 8 1/2" up side of jar below right handle.
