Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Pittsburgh, PA Advertising with Rose and Man-in-the-Moon Stenciling, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled advertising, "W.D. COOPER & BRO / No. 7. / DIAMOND / PITTS.", flanked by a stenciled rose motif. Base with bold-faced stenciled "4" flanked by rare stenciled man-in-the-moon motifs. Freehand stripe decoration below rim and at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Two cracks from rim on front/right side, measuring 6" and 5 3/4". An inverted 6 1/2" Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. A 1 1/4" chip to reverse end of right handle. A few minor, in-the-firing base chips. Some staining.
