Rare Three-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J.M. YOW / ERECT, NC", Randolph County, NC, late 19th century, ovoid jug with delicately-formed spout and two heavily-ribbed strap handles, the surface covered in a salt glaze, including heavy runs to the right shoulder. Impressed with J.M. Yow maker's mark to shoulder, above a hand-incised "3" for three gallons. Wonderful, sculptural form. A series of shallow chips to spout, possibly in-the-firing. A 7/8" in-0ther-firing contact mark to base. Some traces of old green paint to base.
