Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Shield Motif, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, / PA.", circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a shield with star and other designs on interior, along with the stenciled maker's mark, "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, / PA.". Brushed stripe decoration to shoulder and base. A 1 1/4" chip to right side of rim with a short line extending through it. Chips to interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. A shallow in-the-firing chip near base on left side of jar. H 9 1/4".
