Rare One-Gallon Wide-Mouth Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Shield Motif, Stenciled "J. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO PA.", circa 1875, ovoid jug with unusual wide-mouthed form, featuring a stenciled design of a shield with stars and banner surrounding the name, "J. HAMILTON / & CO.". Stenciled floral motifs to the left and right. Stenciled "GREENSBORO PA." at base. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some in-the-firing contact marks to surface.
