Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Flowering Urn Motif, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.", circa 1880, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large, slip-trailed design of a scroll-handled urn with oval base, brimming with a large floral spray, accented with scrolled vines and spotted trails. Stylized ground below includes shrubs to the left and right of the urn. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable design with excellent color. Missing one handle. A few chips on exterior of rim and a few chips on interior of rim. Large, circular separation crack on underside, which occurred in the making, and does not go through to interior.
