Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Fruit Tree Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD N.Y.," circa 1867-1872, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a tree bearing fruit, atop a well-detailed ground filled with shrubs. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 5 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. Minor base flakes on left side of crock and some minor in-the-firing base wear. A 3/4" in-the-firing iron ping to underside. A tiny chip to interior and exterior of rim.
