Large-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Chester Hewell / Gillsville, GA", fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with two applied handles at the shoulder, decorated with applied clay face including china teeth and kaolin eyes with cobalt pupils, the surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Chester Hewell signature. Excellent condition with a shallow chip to top of spout, possibly in-the-firing. H 14 1/2".
