Fine and Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Pears Decoration, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones.", Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded "wax sealer" rim, the front decorated with a stenciled design of two pears hanging from a leafy twig, below Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling. Shoulder decorated with two freehand stripes. A highly-desirable Greensboro motif. Heavy, shallow chipping to shoulder molding on reverse. Some in-the-firing salt residue to base on side of jar. Inner wax sealer rim with a few chips and some roughness. A minor in-the-firing stone ping to rim. H 7 7/8".
