Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Pruntytown, WV origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a leafy vine bearing four large blossoms. Freehand "3" flanked by dashes at base. Wavy freehand stripe below rim. An incised "3" to shoulder area. Large sealed Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing up reverse to shoulder where three shorter, thinner cracks emanate from it. A patch of light exfoliation to reverse and some minor exfoliation to side of jar.Nicks and wear to rim. A small Y-shaped line to front. In-the-firing surface crazing to shoulder.
