Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug, Stamped "Morgantown" and Incised "Green", Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1860, cylindrical jug with tooled, wide-mouthed spout, the shoulder impressed with rare "Morgantown" maker's mark and a two-gallon Thompson Pottery capacity mark. Underside with incised script inscription, "Green", likely a reference to the piece being unfired "greenware" or a reference to the family name "Greenland", as in David Greenland Thompson. Provenance: From an over forty-year private collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
