Two Salt-Glazed Stoneware Bottles, Northeastern U.S. origin, 19th century, one impressed "JHS" with cobalt band around midsection, the other impressed with the cobalt-highlighted name, "L.W. SMITH". JHS bottle in excellent condition with minor base wear. L.W. SMITH bottle in as-made condition with a pre-firing dent to base, a 1 3/4" in-the-firing base chip, a contact mark to front, and a small in-the-firing iron ping to neck. H (of JHS bottle) 9 1/4".
