Lot of Nine, The Robert Meltzer Stoneware Bottle Collection, Northeastern U.S. origin, 19th century, three with cobalt-decorated tops, impressed "DR BROWNs / LEMON BEER / J.P.W."; one with cobalt spout, impressed "DR BROWNS GINGER.POP"; one stamped "S.S. KNICKERBOCKER / 1847"; a molded example, stamped "D.L. ORMSBY / 1849" with star, along with the impressed mark, "PATENT / PRESSED / W. SMITH", Greenwich, NY origin; another stamped only "D L ORMSBY"; one stamped "DOEMICH & SCHNELL / 291 Broome St / NEW YORK"; and one with Albany slip glaze, stamped "C WHITTEMORE". After collecting for forty-plus years and seeing literally hundreds of pieces pass through his possession, these are the bottles Robert Meltzer chose for his collection. A rare opportunity to acquire the bottle collection of a discriminating stoneware collector. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Smaller bottle stamped "D.L. ORMSBY" with 1 5/8" in-the-firing contact mark including salt residue. All in otherwise good to excellent condition. H (of marked W. Smith bottle) 9 7/8".
