Very Fine One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled rim, heavily-decorated with a boldly-brushed flowering vine design around the pitcher's body. Collar decorated with a brushed cobalt flower on one side and swags on the reverse. Spout flanked by additional swags. Unusual border of cobalt spots surrounding the capacity mark on collar. Wonderful decoration with exceptional color. Professional restoration to interior of collar. Restored chip where right side of spout meets rim and a restored rim chip. Hairline on underside, extending from an in-the-firing separation. This hairline extends up side of pitcher and has been partially touched up. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" area of restoration to surface at base, associated with this hairline.
