Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and squared spout, decorated with a large cobalt bird on leaf design, the bird's long tail accented with cobalt dashes. Cobalt applied to maker's and capacity marks as well as handle terminals. A good example by this popular Central PA pottery. Professional restoration to section of spout and area below spout, above makers mark. H 15".
