Rare Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.H. ZIGLER / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1852-1865, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with slip-trailed pairs of flowers. Impressed with H.H. Zigler maker's mark below one handle. Desirable form, size, decoration, and maker. Among the better examples of Zigler stoneware that we have offered. A crack across underside, forming a curving crack on one side and a short crack below one handle. Some flaking to base. Some light wear to rim and handles. Diam. 7 1/2" ; H 4 1/4".
