Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX, / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and lug handles, brush-decorated with an undulating stem bearing a hanging tulip and carrot-shaped blossom. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 3 1/4" loss to rim. Two minor chips to proper right handle. A 2 1/2" Y-shaped line to far right side of jar's front, not visible on interior. An in-the-firing, partially glazed-over iron ping to proper left side of jar. Some light wear to body of jar and edges of handles. H 11 3/4".
