Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Starburst Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flattened rim, brush-decorated with a four-point foliate motif emanating from a bullseye center. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A 5" diagonal crack from rim including two tiny lines emanating from it. Some light staining. Diam. 8 1/2" ; H 6 7/8".
