Scarce Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Horse Decoration, Stenciled "PALATINE / POTTERY / CO," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated at the center with Palatine Pottery Company maker's stenciling and three stenciled rearing horse motifs. Further stenciled above with stenciled grape vine motifs. Stenciled "5" at base. Light surface wear. A chip to reverse end of proper left handle. An area of small in-the-firing contact marks near base on reverse. A 3 1/2" glazed-over surface line from rim on interior, not visible on exterior. H 15".
